Recently, there has been concern regarding the security of data that resides on the hard drives in copier systems. Customers have asked for information on what they can do to remove data when disposing their systems. We've put together the following guidelines and solutions to help our customers with their data security questions.
The good news is that Konica Minolta is the industry leader in regards to MFP data security. Konica Minolta has standard, out-of-the-box, features that ensure that documents that are copied, scanned, faxed, or transmitted, do not remain on the hard drive or in DRAM memory.
Additional security capabilities include the following:
ISO 15408 EAL Level 3 Certification for Total System Architecture
Konica Minolta MFP's are independently certified to the ISO 15408 Data Security standard as established by the Common Criteria for Information Technology Security Evaluation. While some vendors may only certify a component of the MFP or a "security kit", the entire system architecture on Konica Minolta MFP's is certified.
Hard Drive Encryption
128 bit AES encryption for any data temporarily stored on the hard drive.
Password Protection
The built in hard drive of the MFP is protected by a 20 digit alphanumeric password making it extremely difficult for anyone to access the information even if they installed it into a PC or laptop.
Temporary Data Deletion
Depending on the file size for certain jobs, the MFP might use the hard disk to swap data for copy, scan print and fax information. As additional security to protect the information stored on the hard disk, The Swenson Group sets the machine to format and overwrite this data on a per job basis. Under this setting, the temporarily swapped data is immediately deleted and overwritten, using US Navy and Department of Defense overwrite standards, as soon as the data is no longer necessary to end the job in action.
Data Auto Deletion
This allows an administrator to set an auto deletion timer for data stored in the personal or public user boxes, as well as system boxes. The auto deletion setting will erase the copy, print, scan or fax jobs stored in boxes. The data is automatically erased using a highly secure, U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) overwrite method.
Hard Drive Reformat
At the time of disposal, a key operator, administrator or technician can physically format (erase) the hard drive if the MFP needs to be relocated or at the end of lease. The hard drives can be overwritten (sanitized) using up to 8 different highly secure methods including DOD, NASA, Air Force, and NSA standards.
Rest assured that Konica Minolta MFP's meet or exceed current internationally recognized data security standards.
